Beyond worship, the members of the family of God here at First Baptist Church, Surgoinsville find many ways to develop and express their faith. We learn together in Sunday School on Sunday mornings. We have classes for adults, children and youth during Discipleship Training on Sunday Evenings.
Wednesday nights are an ideal time to get to know more people and to experience the caring of our church family. We also offer missions classes such as Mission Friends, R.A.s and G.A.s for children as well as Youth Bible Study and Fellowship.
This is a family with a mission. Not only do we financially support local, state, national and international ministries, but we are involved in disaster relief, Tennessee children's homes, nursing homes and many other opportunities to share the love of God beyond our church walls.
A Brief History
First Baptist Church, Surgoinsville, Tennessee
First Baptist Church was an outgrowth of an 1835 revival meeting held in what was known as the "old log school house." The name given to the church was "The First Missionary Baptist Church of Surgoinsville." On October 26, 1886, the church was officially organized as "Surgoinsville Baptist Church" and services were still being held in the old log school house until the early 1900's. The sanctuary used today was originally constructed in 1927. The first addition to the church (classrooms and fellowship hall) was built in 1951. Later, in the early 1990's a new building was constructed with a larger fellowship hall, classrooms, and offices along with renovation of the stage, choir loft and baptistery. FBC Surgoinsville celebrated it centennial anniversary in the fall of 1986.
